Vijay Hazare Trophy: Nagaland loses to Bengal in first match

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Senior Men’s Cricket team faced a defeat in their opening match at the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Bengal. On Friday, AR Easwaran and Sudip Kumar Gharami contributed 57 and 62 runs respectively, leading Bengal to a comfortable 9-wicket victory.

After winning the toss, Bengal captain Sudip Kumar Gharami opted to field first. Despite a promising start by the Nagaland opening duo, Joshua Ben Longkumer and Sedezhalie Rupreo, the team could only manage to score 139 runs.

Bengal’s bowlers performed skillfully, with Sak Sham Chaudhary taking 3 wickets, while Karan Lal and Akash Deep claimed 2 wickets each. Ishan Porel, Shahbaz, and Pradipta Pramanik also secured a wicket each.

Sumit Kumar was the top scorer for Nagaland with 36 runs.

The run chase was dominated by Bengal, achieving their target in just 18.5 overs. RS Jaganath Sinivas was the lone successful bowler for Nagaland, picking up the only wicket of Bengal.

Nagaland’s next match is against Madhya Pradesh on November 25, at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, Mumbai.
