Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates laboratory in Manipur

Imphal, Oct. 5 (EMN):
Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday inaugurated the phyto-pharmaceutical laboratory facility at the Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Takyelpat in the outskirts of Imphal.

The laboratory will aid in the development of effective herbal medicines for various diseases like Covid-19.

The inauguration function was attended by Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh, council of ministers and officials.

Addressing the gathering, M Venkaiah Naidu said India’s development is incomplete without development of the North Eastern region. He also urged all states to work along with the Centre in the true spirit of Team India for growth and prosperity.

Praising the contribution of the Indian scientific community in nation building, he said, “You are endowed with the requisite education, training, focus and discipline to apply pragmatic scientific knowledge for fast-tracking the country’s all-round development.”

Lauding IBSD, an institution under the department of Biotechnology, for managing the bio-resources of the region for sustainable development using modern biotechnological tools, he said, “I am glad to know that ISBD is also focusing on the promotion of start-ups based on the development of herbal medicinal products such as Ayush drugs, phyto-pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, among others. This is indeed the need of the hour.”

Earlier in the day, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu ,who arrived here on a two-day visit to Manipur, was received by Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh at Bir Tikendrajit International airport.

Without delay, he drove straight to the Raj Bhawan in Imphal wherein a reception programme was also held. The visiting Vice President is also scheduled to interact with Tokyo Olympians from Manipur besides attending a cultural programme at Raj Bhawan, Imphal.
