The 16th Veteran Club Open Badminton Championship began today at Eastern Christian College Indoor Badminton Stadium, Dimapur. Altogether 30 players from Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Nagaland Police and Medziphema are participating in the two-day tournament.Declaring the tournament open as the chief guest was PAC member Ahovi Sema, who is also the GB of Padumpukhuri and president of Elite Badminton Club. In his speech, Ahovi lauded the Veteran Club for organizing the tournament for the last 16 years and also hoped that the club will continue to organize the tournament which bring together and unite people from all walks of life. This kind of tournament foster friendship and bring people together, said the chef guest. He also reminded that tournament is not only about winning but also about discipline and sportsmanship. He urged the participants to play fair and hope that the tournament will produce players who will go on to play in the national and even international level.
The tournament will conclude on January 9. The categories played in the tournament are veteran mixed double, sub-veteran, men’s single and men’s double.
