Dimapur, May 5 (EMN): In the final match of the 2nd Late I Pihoto Awomi Inter-Club Cricket tournament on Thursday, Veritas Sports beat Sovima Cricket Club to lift the trophy.

An update informed that Veritas Sports won the toss to bat first and set a target of 194 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Hem Bahadur Chetri scored 49 runs, followed by Moakumzuk with 27 runs, Shamphri with 17 runs, V V Harallu scoring 17 runs and Imtizungted managing to secure 16 runs. Neizekho Rupreo was the main bowler, who took 3 wickets giving away only 27 runs, while Aneizo took 2 wickets for the Sovima Cricket Club.

Meanwhile, Sovima Cricket Club chasing the target of 194 runs had a shaky start as their batsmen fell prey to Hopongkyu Sangtam. Discipline bowling attack by Veritas Sports saw Sovima winding down at regular interval, falling short of 121 at the end of the 26.5 overs, which made them lose all wickets, it said.

It stated that Monu Kumar was declared the Best Bowler with Shamphri Terang as the Best Batsman, Mughavi Sumi as the Emerging Player of the Tournament, and Hem Bahadur as the Man of the Series.

It may be mentioned that the tournament was organised by Dimapur District Cricket Association under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association.

It added that Sebastian Zumvu, VCC, Sovima Village attended the closing ceremony and prize distribution programme, which was chaired by C K Mech, Secretary, DDCA. Zhamhalie Rupreo, Youth Director, SCRC invoked God’s blessing, while Choba Lotha, President, DDCA delivered the welcome address and H Thong, Treasurer, DDCA pronounced the vote of thanks.
