Vepoto Keyho is champion of Sekrünye wrestling

Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): The 60th Sekrünye Wrestling Meet of the Khulazu Basa Youth Organisation was conducted in the premises of the government primary school-A in Khulazu Basa village on Wednesday, Jan. 29, informed an update that was received here on Wednesday.

Vepoto Keyho of Celumi Club emerged the champion of the Naga style wrestling and walked away with INR 11, 000. Meanwhile, Cüsavoyi Chüzho bagged the second position, winning INR 1500, and Zhoposa Keyho stood third in the senior category.

In the junior category, Phisato Chüzho emerged the winner while Verizo Chüzho came in second place. Winners were also given cash awards along with citations.

A total of 85 participants including a two-year old, the youngest, participated in the wrestling event.

Traditionally, on the last day of the Sekrünye festival, men from the village come together to participate in the Naga style wrestling event.

Agriculture inspector at the sub-divisional agriculture office of Chozuba, Tsosayi Chüzho, attended the occasion as the special guest. In his address, Chüzho urged the youngsters to preserve culture and traditional games. In the age of modern technology where traditional values are disappearing, the youths were asked to give due importance to one’s culture and tradition as it is their identity. He added that one should be willing to participate in cultural activities whenever called for.
