Vekuzo Vezuh wins PAWA wrestling title

Vekuzo Vezuh from Khomi emerged the champion title of the 23th wrestling meet of Phek Area Wrestling Association (PAWA) which took place here today at Phek Town Local Ground.He pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 along with proficiency certificate.
Zhokho Lala, Khoveto Lala and Veyikro Vezuh, all from Khomi stood second, third and fourth place and pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 35,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, 12 wrestlers selected to represent PAWA at the forthcoming Chakhesang wrestling meet included; Vekuzo Vezuh (Khomi), Zhokho Lala (Khomi), Khoveto Lala (Khomi), Veyikro Vezuh (Khomi), Donehu (Khomi), Musuto Vezuh (Khomi), Kuhi (Losami), Mulevo Keyho (Phek), Vekutho Soho (Phek Basa), Rukusu Lohe (Khomi), Kuluveto Venuh (Phek) and Veto Soho (Phek).
Earlier, minister for PWD (Roads & Bridges) and parliamentary affairs Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu graced the inaugural function as the chief guest and declared the tournament open.
Speaking on the occasion, he encouraged the wrestlers to have healthy competition and strive to excel in the field and bring fame and pride to self, family and the community as a whole.
Touching on the ongoing road widening work at Phek town, he called upon the general public to extend their cooperation and at the same time urged each and every individual to put a collective effort to beautify the town, which would in turn attract the inflow of both domestic and international tourists.
The minister also called upon the denizens to have an accommodative spirit in order to create conducive atmosphere to live in.
Earlier, PAWA president Zachita Tetseo delivered presidential address while wrestling secretary Shurhonieyi Soho administered oath to the wrestlers. The function was chaired by PAWA assistant general secretary Veto Hoshi.
Meanwhile, National style wrestling will take place on February 1 from 8:30 AM onwards.
