Our Correspondent Imphal, July 19 (EMN): The movement of trucks carrying goods and commodities has been resumed in Manipur after the completion of the Barak Bridge repairing works. Manipur’s connectivity woes were compounded after a British era steel bridge across river Barak on its National Highway 37 which is considered as second life line of Manipur after National Highway 2 collapsed partially on Monday, leaving more than 300 Imphal-bound goods trucks stranded. The bridge is about 120km west of Imphal. However with the completion of the repairing works of the damaged portion by state and National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) personnel, stranded trucks carrying rice and petroleum products have started to move to state capital. NH 37, which connects Imphal to rest of the country through Silchar, Assam, is becoming an important lifeline of the state after the other lifeline-NH2 was cut-off since July 15 following a massive landslide in Nagaland. Since then all the Manipur bound trucks diverted to NH 37. Meanwhile works minister Th Biswajit told media person that authorities concerned have been instructed to look into the lapses of the officials manning the bridge for necessary steps.
