Dimapur, December 13
Functionaries of the Village Development Board on Friday congregated in Kutsapo village in Phek district, said to be the “birthplace” of the rural developmental institution of the government to mark its foundation. Likewise, the Nagaland State VDB Association was in the village on December 11. The association said the village is the “the birthplace of VDB”. Various VDB functionaries and district VDB unions attended a function that was held to commemorate the foundation.
A function was held in the panchayat hall of Kutsapo village. VDB secretary of Kutsapo village Vechikhoyi Loha gave a brief account of the formation of the VDB institution in Nagaland. He said the VDB was formed to achieve a number of objectives: That the government would come down to the village instead of the villagers going up to the government; that villages would benefit through schemes; that the eyes of the public ‘would be opened and the village community would enjoy local self government; that the banking system would become a common phenomenon in the near future in the rural areas.
Also, president of VDB association Tali Pongner called upon the villagers to work ‘with unity; for all-round development of the village and become a “trend setter” as this village was the “father of all VDB’s in Nagaland state.” He said it was his long cherished dream to pay an official visit to this birth place of VDB. “Today, I am happy that my dream has came true’, he said. According to the VDB leader it took ‘many days to find out the exact date of the formation of VDB’.
“If VDB was not born from here, what will be the fate of the villages in Nagaland, as it is the only life line for development of all the villages in state,” the village leader said.
