Various activities mark 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas

Dimapur, July 26 (EMN): Different battalions of the Assam Rifles spread across Nagaland celebrated the 20th anniversary of victory of Kargil War by organising various activities.

Mokokchung: To mark the occasion, Mokokchung battalion felicitated parents of Subedar Imliakum Ao of 2 NAGA Regiment from Chuchuyimpang village in Mokokchung district who was himself an embodiment of heroism and valour. The contribution of Northeast warriors in the likes of Capt. N Kengruse (MVC) of 2nd Rajputana Rifles and Capt. Clifford Nongrum (MVC) of 12th JAK RIF among others was brought out in a solemn gathering of the battalion.

 Jalukie: Jalukie battalion organised screening of ‘audio visual display’ for student audience showcasing the valour and accomplishments of the Indian army. Altogether, 308 students and 27 teachers from Liangmai Baptist School, Tening, and Government High Secondary School, Peren, witnessed the same.

Dimapur: Dimapur battalion organised a painting competition at community hall, Ganesh Nagaron, with an aim to provide a platform for children to express their talent and thoughts through art.

Altogether, 29 students participated in the competition. In another event, an audio visual displaying the valour and sacrifice of the troops in the war was screened at Kashiram Basti Garrison, which witnessed by families of troops and civilian friends from the locality.

Kohima: Kohima battalion organised a “small arms firing” for National Cadet Corps (boys and girls) of Kohima district. Altogether, 23 boys and 21 girls NCC cadets along with instructors participated in the firing. A movie on Kargil War was also screened followed by a lecture-cum-interaction on various entry schemes for joining the armed forces.

A solemn wreath laying ceremony was also carried at the Battalion war memorial in honour of the martyrs.

Chieswema: Chieswema battalion observed the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas by paying homage to the brave hearts through a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the Capt. N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous) War Memorial, Nerhema. A painting and essay writing competitions were also organised at Chizami, Pfutsero, Chakbama, Ziezou and Chiepobozou in paying tributes to the unmatched heroes of the Indian army during the Kargil War.

Japfu College: As a part of Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations 2019, a motivational talk was conducted by 164 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) NAGA at Japfu Christian College, Zakhama, on July 25. During the event, Sub Imliakum Ao, MVC (Parent Unit 2 NAGA) and Kargil war hero, delivered a lecture to the students. Subedar Imliakum Ao, MVC, was later felicitated by the college administration.
