Dimapur, Jan. 3 (EMN): Defending champions Vanguard FC from Tseminyu won the 9th Eagles’ Trophy by defeating Ehunnu and Yikhanu students’ union by 4-1 in the final match played at KSU ground, K Station, on January 3.
The 9th Eagles' Trophy, organised by Eagles' Club, K Station, commenced on December 27.
E&YSU took the lead in the first-half through a penalty converted by Philip Kath but Vanguard FC came back stronger in the second half wherein the team captain Nyithong Magh, Yhunshalo Kemp, Sinlo Kent and Ntsenlo Semp scored one goal each to make it 4-1 to claim the trophy for the second time.
The champions walked away with the trophy, cash prize of INR 30,000 and certificates, while the runners-up was awarded cash prize of INR 20,000 and certificates.
Captain Nyithong Magh of Vanguard FC was awarded the ‘Man of the final match’ as well as ‘Player of the tournament awards.’ Vanguard Sinlo Kent was awarded the highest scorer of the tournament (nine goals), while E&YSU's Alfred Kath was awarded the best goalkeeper.
Mosenlo Apon, commander of 4th NAP B Coy, Tseminyu, was the match patron of the final match. Altogether, 15 teams participated in the 9th edition of the Eagles' Trophy. The next edition would be played in 2020.
