Vanathi Srinivasan slams Congress over MP’s cash stash
Congratulates Nagaland on passing Municipal Bill 2023
DIMAPUR — Vanathi Srinivasan, the National President of the BJP Mahila Morcha, has attacked the Congress party over the recovery of cash exceeding INR 200 crore stashed inside almirahs, allegedly linked to Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand Dhiraj Sahu.
During a press conference held on Saturday at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur, Srinivasan criticised the opposition alliance for its silence on the corruption charges involving Sahu.
She noted that, in the aftermath of demonetisation, the Congress and its allies consistently chastised the Modi government, frequently demanding evidence, and questioned why the opposition parties, which had been fervently challenging the central government on this issue, today had gone notably silent.
Srinivasan questioned the need to keep such large sums of money in almaras in India, where there is a widespread shift towards digital transactions and asked why the individual in question was appointed to such a position. She maintained that Sahu has been a Rajya Sabha MP since 2010 and is perceived to be close to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
She went on to say that whenever such raids occur, the Congress and opposition parties frequently dismiss them as politically motivated and have even gone so far as to disparage agencies, comparing them to puppets of the central government.
She added that there is nothing wrong with conducting lawful business and amassing substantial wealth; however, she questioned the necessity of holding such enormous sums, particularly during election season, and alleged that the opposition alliance partners are not only known for their dynastic politics, but they are also known for engaging in corrupt practices.
Furthermore, Srinivasan said that the Modi government guarantees and commits to providing free rations to poor families, giving back to the people through infrastructure development, constructing roads, bridges, railway stations, and airports, and empowering women across the country.
She congratulated the people of Nagaland on the passing of the Nagaland Municipal Bill, 2023, which grants 33 percent reservation for women in urban local body elections, a provision that had been denied for two decades and added that this decision now enables the women of Nagaland to actively participate in policy-making processes.
During the press conference, Kropol Vitsu, advisor of Prison, Printing and Sationary, and state vice president, also condemned the cash recovery, describing it as unimaginable and condemnable.
Vitsu went on to say that the consequences of such corrupt actions affect ordinary Indians, categorising them as sufferers and victims. He urged the citizens of Nagaland to unite in condemnation, stand together in opposition, and not overlook such occurrences.
Later, in protest, party members held placards that read, “Down with dynastic corrupted politics” and “Bunch of crooks: Congress led INDI alliance bloc”.
