Valve has constantly updated the Steam desktop app over the years with new user interface changes and visual design elements. But, for some reason, it has not updated anything significant about the Steam mobile app since 2015.

On Thursday, however, the company finally announced it is overhauling the entire Steam mobile app on both iOS and Android platforms. In a blog post, the company said that the new updated Steam mobile app is in beta for anyone interested to try it out on their device. Valve says the new Steam mobile app will have added features like QR code sign-in, smarter notifications, an improved Library, and multi-account support.

The company wrote in the blog post, “Today we’re starting a limited beta of the updated Steam Mobile App. We’ve rebuilt the app on a new framework and modernized the design. (2015 called and wanted their app back.) You’ll still be able to browse the store, get Steam Guard codes, and confirm trades, but now the app comes with QR code sign in, smarter notifications, an improved Library, and multi account support.”

Valve says that the new Steam mobile app will have all the functionalities of the existing app like Steam Guard codes, inventory browsing and trade offers. On top of that, Valve says the new Steam mobile app will have added features like QR code sign-in, smarter notifications, an improved Library, and multi-account support.

Interestingly, the ability to log in by scanning a QR code on a PC similar to the WhatsApp web app is a god sent for many users. Also, the updated notification system will be appreciated by a lot of users.

“The sooner we get your feedback on a product, the better. So when we’re far enough along, we ask invested Steam users to try something out and provide feedback. This helps us test our assumptions, learn what you like and don’t like, and find things that need to be fixed. This is especially important when the app can be used on so many different phones and devices,” wrote Valve.

At this point, the new Steam mobile app is only in beta and Valve is yet to announce any official release date. For the time being, the company has asked its beta users to provide feedback. Anyone can test the beta version except for a limited number of iOS users. Due to Apple’s strict guidelines, the beta test for iOS participants is only liomited to 10,000 users.

“You should join the beta if you already use the Steam Mobile App and you’re willing to provide your feedback on the update. Join this Steam group for instructions on how to install the update and how to tell us what you think. Per Apple guidelines: iOS participants will be limited to 10,000 and will need to install TestFlight,” wrote Valve.
