Publisher Coffee Stain and Developer Iron Gate Studio on Monday announced that their Viking survival game Valheim has now sold over 10 million copies.

On Valheim’s official Twitter handle, the company wrote, “Valheim has sold over 10 million copies! Thank you to every single one of you who got us to this milestone – when we launched the game we could never in our wildest dreams have imagined this.”

Valheim was first released in February 2021 via early access and the game has since become one of the most popular games on Steam garnering over 293,000 ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews on the platform. The game also hit an all-time player peak of 502,000 players on Steam making it one of the most-played games on the platform.

“We never imagined Valheim would become so big, not even in our wildest dreams, and the past year flew by faster than we anticipated,” added Richard Svensson, CEO of Iron Gate Studio.

“Our team has doubled since launch and knowing Valheim is enjoyed by millions of players around the world honours and humbles us at the same time.”

Valheim is expected to bring more content to its players with the Valheim Mistlands update scheduled to be released sometime this year. The new update will include a brand new biome to explore, new enemies and weapons to craft.

“Seeing Valheim’s journey through its first year of Early Access and being by Iron Gate’s side has been an immense privilege,” stated Albert SΓ€fstrΓΆm, VP of Publishing at Coffee Stain.

“The team is pouring all their development knowledge and love for the craft into the game, and it’s humbling to see the fruit of their work bring joy to millions around the world.”
