Kohima, March 6 (EMN): In order to give back to the local community of Dimapur and empower young girls for a better tomorrow, Usupso Dimapur donated 10 percent of its one-day sales to Miqlat Ministry in celebration of 'International Women’s Day’ on Saturday.
Usupso is a Japanese lifestyle retail outlet based in Dimapur and Kohima.
Usupso invited Miqlat Ministry, an NGO based in Dimapur, along with their girl children to be part of the celebration.
Co-ordinator of Miqlat Ministry, Alohe Tsuhah shared to Eastern Mirror that they were ‘surprised and thankful for the thoughtful gesture and for remembering the NGO, especially the children’.
Tsuhah informed that Miqlat Ministry is an initiative of NBCC women’s department and their primary focus is on women who are victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Tsuhah added that their children’s education support started after they interacted with women and realised that most of the children were not in schools and even if they joined schools, their parents failed to pay the schools fees.
Noticing the vulnerability and ‘bleak future’ of the children, they decided to support them in the hopes that this ‘inter-generational cycle of vulnerability of exploitation’ would break. She added that most of the support comes from friends and well wishers.
Tsuhah also encouraged the people to help the children not only monetarily but also through prayers and encouragement.
Meanwhile, in a similar programme, reigning Miss Nagaland Vikuonuo Sachü joined hands with Usupso to empower the young girls of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH) on Saturday evening.
Speaking during a brief function held at Usupso store, opposite Old Medical Directorate PR Hill in Kohima, Sachü said "Women empowerment is still a new thing in the state of Nagaland, the word and the phrase is still uncertain in our society".
In this regard, she opined that it was mainly because people did not ‘feel the need to educate women’, empower young girls or empower the society through women.
According to Sachu, women in Nagaland and across Northeast India ‘live a remarkable’ life and have an ‘excellent name in and across the globe.’
‘A lot of young girls are motivated and inspired by the things those women do,’ she said.
She also maintained that women empowerment is not only a phrase that is used as a protest or for legal rights but used in terms of success, achievements and also used as an example of inspiration to live.
“The occasion is not only to celebrate womanhood but also respect all women across the globe”, said the beauty queen.
She expressed happiness to be part of the event to celebrate and honour women around, while extending her acknowledgement to Usupso for having her to be able to ‘learn the beauty of women’.
The beauty queen also interacted with 20 young girls from KODH besides handing over gift hampers presented by the Usupso store.
