Imphal, Nov. 23 (EMN): India (A) lost to USA by a goal margin of 13-2 while India (B) defeated England 7-4 goals on Friday, the second day of the 12th edition of the Manipur Polo International 2018 which is underway here at the Mapal Kangjeibung, in Imphal since Thursday.

Five International teams including India (A), India (B), Uruguay, USA and England participated in the weeklong International polo tournament which was held under the aegis of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) as part of ongoing 10 day Manipur Sangai Festival 2018, a state level festival which aims to promote the state as world class tourism destination since 2010 onwards.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh accompanied by Youth affairs and state sports minister Letpaok Haokip, formally opened the tourney on Thursday wherein Uruguay beat USA 3-1.

In his opening ceremony remark, Chief Minister Biren said the government would implement the Manipur Pony Policy soon adding that there are proposals to set up a sanctuary for the stray Ponies in the State.

Interestingly unlike the rest of the country, the game of polo is not limited to the elite class in Manipur. The Guinness Book of World Records had already recognised Manipur as the birthplace of Modern Polo in 1991.
