US Consul General Helen LaFave assured to encourage business firms from the US to come forward for investment in the northeastern region, including Nagaland.
Addressing a press conference at Hotel Vivor Tuesday night, LaFave said, “If the American companies have interest to come for investment to Nagaland or elsewhere in the North East region, they are free to contact her office in Kolkata.”
“We do help them with advisory and encourage them to come to this part of the world for investment,” she said.
Asked whether she finds the region safe for American firms to come for investment, she said the situation is not the same for every state as there are areas which are very peaceful, but the companies to decide for themselves.
LaFave, who is in the State for the second time after she took over as Consul General in Kolkata in August 2013, said she wants to learn more about the American missionaries who came to Nagaland in the 19th century and brought the gospel and educated the Naga people.
She said she is delighted to witness the unique and diverse tribal traditions of the Naga people.
The Consul General’s visit to the State this time is in keeping with her socio-economic familiarisation trips throughout the North East and underscoring key elements of the US-India strategic relationship.
She has been in Kohima since November 30, and during her stay she went to Kohima War cemetery to pay tribute to the brave soldiers of India and the allied forces that fought together during World War-II.
Further, the Consul General also asserted that she would continue to work towards building better diplomatic and commercial relationship between India and US.
