Urban Development dept. appeals to shun plastic items
Dimapur, Sep. 30 (EMN): In view of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2019 awareness campaign Nagaland from September 11 to October 1, the Urban Development department has appealed to all the ULB, village councils, agencies, educational institutions, departments, religious forums, security forces (central & state), NGOs, SHGs, civil societies, citizens etc. to actively participate in the campaign and make Nagaland and single-use plastic-free state.
An update from Nongozo APRO has informed that action points have been issued in this connection for strict compliance.
‘Single-use plastic means use and throw plastic items, segregation at source (recyclable) and non-recyclable plastic, plastic has to be cleaned and dried, no burning of waste of any kind, no littering of waste; to use dustbins, carry own water bottle and jute/cloth shopping bag, adopt plogging,’ read the update.
‘..say no to plastic, 5 (Five) R’s – refuse, reuse, repurpose and recycle, discourage use of plastic products viz. artificial flowers, banners, flag, flower pots, plastic water bottles, plastic stationery items like folders etc., and other plastic materials,’ it added.
