DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 3

The UNTABA today met Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju at his office in New Delhi and apprised him about the border problems being faced by the people living in and around the border areas between Assam and Nagaland and the need to resolve the issue immediately.
The team also apprised the Union minister about the traditional, historical and political rights of the Naga people over the so-called ‘Disputed Area Belt’ unilaterally declared by Assam to encroach upon the Naga people’s land. He was further apprised on the stand of the UNTABA in particular not to recognize the so-called ‘DAB’ any more taking into consideration the inherent rights of the Naga people over these lands and not to recognize all the past interim agreements since the Assam government had already abrogated various terms of agreements so as to encroach more on the Nagas’ lands in the border areas.
The Union minister after giving patient hearing stated the intent of the present government is to bring about amicable settlement of the issue at the earliest possible time, UNTABA said.
