Unknown disease kills several pigs in Dimapur

Dimapur, June 12 (EMN): An unknown disease has reportedly claimed the lives of several pigs in Dimapur district in the past week.
A pig farmer in Dimapur informed Eastern Mirror that around 10 of his pigs had died within a week. He said that samples of the pigs had been taken by the Veterinary department and the result of the test is yet to be ascertained. According to him, more that 100 pigs have died in Dimapur.
Meanwhile, Joint Director of African Swine Fever (ASF) Core Committee Convenor, Dr. Khriekuolie Linyü, informed that samples of the pigs have been taken and sent for testing, and the result is still awaited.
It may be mentioned that African Swine Fever (ASF) has already been detected in Longleng, Mokokchung and Phek districts through nucleotide sequencing of PCR products and RTPCR from NIHSAD in Bhopal and NERDDL in Guwahati.
