Dimapur, July 30 (EMN): The University of Science and Technology of Meghalaya (USTM) organised an event called the ‘University Public Relations Day’ on July 29 at Hotel Landmark in Guwahati. The day was marked by a felicitation of media personalities from the region besides announcements of several educational schemes for the media by the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF), among others, a press release from the organisers on Sunday stated.
Speaking at the event, Mahbubul Hoque, chancellor of USTM and chairman of the ERD Foundation said that the ‘USTM PR Day’ was a special event organised for the media fraternity “where we take the opportunity to recognise the efforts of journalist from across the region for their contribution in the field of journalism.”
The awards distribution program for the 2nd North East College Magazine competition was also held. Under the Best Magazine category the first three prizes were bagged by Alochani by Digboi College, Jabian by J.B. College and Lakhimpur Girls College Magazine by Lakhimpur Girls College respectively, the press release stated.
Cottonian by Cotton College was adjudged the Best Cover category; Manash Pratim Rajbanshi, a 4th Semester student of Nalbari College won the award for his article Moraha Fulor Xubah under the Best Article category. Dipsikha Baruah of Digboi College won the Best Woman Editor award; Priyanka Nath, 6th Semester student of K.C Das Commerce College Best Woman Writer award for her article Nishigandha. MOSAIC 2016 of St Anthony’s College in Shillong in Meghalaya and RENDEZVOUS 16 of Salesian College of Higher Education, in Dimapur of Nagaland, bagged the Special Jury Award.
Also, the journalists who were given awards during the event were Nitumoni Saikia (Editor in Chief, Pratidin Times), Prasanta Rajguru (Executive Editor, Amar Axom), Snigdha Sikha Borah (DY 365), Chaya Moni Bhuyan (Political Editor, News Live), Emilo Konyak (Correspondent, Nagaland Post), Nasreen Habib (Editor, Eclectic), Mamta Misra (The Assam Tribune), and Bireshwar Das (Dainik Jugasankha), the press release added.
