'Universal adult franchise is nation's core achievement'

Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan on Monday said that one of the country's core achievements in democracy is the introduction of universal adult franchise, which allows every citizen of the country irrespective of gender, race, caste and religion the right to vote.

The DC was speaking at the 11th National Voters' Day celebration programme held at the Commissioner of Taxes, Dimapur on January 25.
The deputy commissioner said that in the past couple of decades, a lot of people have missed out in the electoral voting list.

"But the election commission and election commission of state level has created awareness, avenues and enough machineries to ensure that everyone is enrolled and the percentages of miss out in electoral list has come down drastically," he informed.

Soundararajan also acknowledged the BLO's as they are the main critical element in the election machinery and also thanked the HoD's for their support. He also congratulated the newly enrolled voters in the electoral and added that they were the upcoming generation and they would decide the future of the state.

During the programme, best booth-level officers were awarded from the five area constituencies of Dimapur district; from Dimapur-I, LDA, DMC development Branch, polling station no. 26, Tosheli Kiba was awarded that best booth level officer, from Dimapur-II, LDA, Directorate of Food and Civil Supply, polling Station no-3, Keviler; from Dimapur-III, P/T Khoponala, polling station no-43, Zulumongla; from Ghaspani-I, P/T GMS Diphupar-B, polling station no-34, Beto and Ghaspani-II, Teacher i/c GPS Khughovi, polling station no-52, Henito Aye.

E-Epic cards along with badges were given to all the newly enrolled voters and a video message was delivered by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sunil Arora and the pledge was administered by additional Deputy Commissioner, V Lovitoly Sema. Electronic version of the voter identity card was also launched which would be accessible to all the general electoral from February 1, 2021.
