Unity College observes Freshers Social-cum-Annual Day

Dimapur, June 24 (EMN)
: Unity College, Dimapur observed its 13th Freshers Social-cum-Annual Day in the college premises on June 22. The event started Chief Guest, Prof. Pardeshi Lal, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University planting a tree sapling.

According to an update from the Dean of Students Welfare, Unity College, Lal encouraged the students to focus on the values of life rather than marks alone. He also mentioned SWAYAM, which is a programme initiated by the government of India and designed to achieve three cardinal principles of Education Policy – Access, Equity and Quality; and MOOCs, which is a free online course available for everyone.

While urging the students to register for these courses, Lal asked the “students to equip themselves with skills and education beyond the classroom.”

Pastor Among Lemtur of New Life Nagaland prayed for the freshers while principal of college Dr. Lichumo Enie delivered the welcome address, Julika K Sheqi spoke on behalf of the freshers, Hachithung Ngullie spoke on behalf of the seniors, and Krelo Vincenza spoke on behalf of the alumni.

Atele Mero was crowned Miss Fresher 2019 and Talikaba Longkumer was declared Mr. Fresher during the entertainment session of the event.

The 12th edition of the college magazine — Nurture — was also released during the programme. Meritorious students in the recently declared Nagaland University Examination were felicitated; Grace I Namgi was declared the Student of the Year 2019; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Vivolhuno Punyu from the Dept. of History was given the Certificate of Excellence.
