Dimapur, Sep. 20 (EMN): To create awareness amongst the teaching faculty, non-teaching and students of the college about the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which was launched on July 29, the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) of Unity College, Dimapur organised a webinar on September 18.
The resource person for the webinar was Professor E Venkatesu from the department of Political science, Hyderabad Central University and Centre for the Study of Developing Societies-Lokniti Network, an update received here on Sunday informed.
Prof. Venkatesu shared the aims, basic purpose of the NEP, 2020 and vision of the country to transform India by revamping the structure of education at all levels. He highlighted some core elements of the policy that is on the new structure of education, importance of inter-disciplinary subjects at the higher education to fill the gap of knowledge system and diversified courses the students can take up through online mode; and significance of CBCS system where the students can opt their choice of subjects and to increase gross enrolment ratio from 26.3 to 50 % by 2035.
He also mentioned vocational education in which the students can acquire skills along with their degrees so that the country will not face shortage of labour and become self-sufficient.
Speaking on the role of teacher education institutes, he stressed on the need to restructure four years integrated B.Ed degree course to produce quality education and teachers. He mentioned the Higher Education Commission of India which will be set up as a revamping regulatory mechanism and under this umbrella four main verticals- NHERC, GEC, HEGC and NAC will function under it.
The professor further shared the challenges of the education system in the past with the present core features of the policy like mushrooming of colleges, allocation and channelising of funds in the educational sector.
About 173 participants from the college participated in the webinar.
