Dimapur, Feb. 10 (EMN): An inter-college ‘commerce’ festival dubbed the ‘Commmvanza 2018,’ organised by the department of commerce of Unity College in Dimapur, was inaugurated on February 10 in the college premises.
The director of Nagaland University of College Development Council Dr. Krishna Kant Upadhyay was the chief guest of the event.
“Commmvanza” is an event for commerce colleges and students in general that aims to inculcate a competitive spirit among commerce students while acting as an interactive platform, said Dr. Tongpangkumla, the head of Unity College’s commerce department. The event, she said, was a devised from the two words ‘commerce’ and ‘extravaganza.’
Addressing the commerce students, Dr. Upadhyay acknowledged that he was reluctant to accept the invitation initially because of the condition of the roads in the state. He described his travelling experience in the state as a ‘punishment.’ However, he said, the event would be the best chance for him to interact with students.
The chief guest exhorted the student community with tips about the career opportunities they can have. He informed them that the institution of higher education has four lakh vacant positions till date.
To fill the positions, Dr. Upadhyay encouraged the students to complete their masters in commerce, clear their National Eligibility Test (NET), and P.HD—although it may require time. It will be a better option for them to contribute to the country’s academics. Also, students can venture into indigenous apparel industry, agriculture equipment or the food industry as they are a good opportunity for them, the chief guest said.
“There are many advertisements on MSME and the state government is continuously encouraging the youths to venture into MSME. In this way you can be a job provider to those job seekers to at least 50-100 people in the country”, exhorted Dr. Upadhyay. He pointed out that the contribution of the state in IAS, IPS and IPS is nil and for that reason called upon the student community to prepare and involve for administrative services.
Nagaland University is in an effort which is a part of education excellence by cooperating with national and international institutions and introduce student exchange programme and also introduce new programmes which are in high demand such as BDS, MBBS, MS, B.ED, to name a few, informed Dr. Upadhyay.
Development Council, Nagaland University will be introducing competition among private affiliated colleges for development and publish top 10 colleges so that students and universities can have easy access, he informed.
Unity College Principal Dr. SK Chabbra in his welcome note said Commmvanza 2018 was the 1st event for commerce students’ and the college plans to make it an annual event. St. Joseph’s College Jakhama, Baptist College Kohima, Oriental College Kohima, Kohima College, Mount Mary College Chumukedima, Eastern Christian College, Pranabananda Women’s college and Tetso College are the colleges participating for the event.
The events held during Commvanza 2018 were- The Entrepreneur, Ad-Mad, Quiz-O-Mania, Group Discussion, Laughter Challenge and TurnCoat. The overall winner was Unity College and the runner up was Tetso College.
