DIMAPUR — The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), the apex body of the Sangtam students' community, inspected the ongoing construction of the Assistant Mechanical Engineer (AME) office in Kiphire on November 11 and found it had been neglected for years.
The USSC stated in a press release that the department issued the work order in 2023, and the building was almost complete in 2025, with only painting and wiring remaining.
The USSC noted that although Kiphire was declared a district headquarters in February 2004, the Mechanical office is yet to be bifurcated, even after 21 years since the district declaration.
“The conference wishes to know whether the fault lies with either the contractor or the department. Whatever the reason for the delay, the conference demands the construction work to be completed and the office to be functional by the early part of 2026,” it stated.
“Moreover, the conference will always keep an eye on its early completion.”
