Kohima, August 9 (EMN): The much awaited Kohima Football League (KFL) 2017, organised by Kohima Town Club, commenced this afternoon at Kohima local ground.
Playing an exciting inaugural match, United 16 FC and Forerunners' FC played out a goalless draw and had to be contended with a point each.
The match was equally poised till the final minute of the match as both sides created numerous chances but failed to find the back of the net.
United’s Longkhoi wasted a fine opportunity in the 26th minute when he came one-on-one with the goal keeper but kicked the ball directly to the keeper. United should have taken the lead through L. Lemsang but hit the woodwork in the 40th minute. The first half ended in a scoreless draw. In the second half, Forerunner came back stronger but rued their missed opportunities that came their way as they failed to breach the defense line. Forerunners’ came close to take three points during the game; however Seyienietuo headed the ball straight to the keeper via a free kick in the 65th minute. The match ended in a goalless draw.
While speaking during the press briefing, United FC media representatives said they were not satisfied with the results and were confident of getting the three points, and termed the game as hard luck.
The inaugural session was graced by Kekhrie Yhome, the independent candidate who unsuccessfully contested against NPF stalwart Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu at the recently held by-election of the 10th Northern Angami-1 A/C.
Making a clarion call to bring about positive changes in the Naga society, Yhome, who is also an academician, called for the need to have standard playgrounds in the State.
While lamenting over the condition of the playgrounds in Nagaland, he candidly termed it as ‘paddy field’, but not a playground.
Yhome, said that it is our job to create infrastructure, and the job of the players is to give their best and emphasis that they important to work together for development.
He also challenged the gathering stating that the league needs their support, and said ‘how we can support this kind of venture if we ourselves don’t support.’ Yhome hoped that the league will be able to cover the entire State in the near future.
Khriekesa FC to face Addax FC on Thursday
Entering the second day of Kohima Football League, Khriekesa FC will play against Addax FC on August 10 at Kohima local ground from 3 pm onwards.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, the teams Khriekesa FC and Addax FC expressed their confidence for the match, while they both were quite positive to make a good start by having the three points to their favour.
Media representative of Khriekesa FC, while welcoming the KFL, said it (league) will give the young players a platform to expose their talents. It has also come as good news that Khriekesa FC has inducted the service of a chaplain in order to monitor and discipline players.
“We will give our best and hope to give a good fight during the match,” the captain said adding that the team has been training for a couple of months or so.
Team coach of Addax FC expressed his hope that the league players will improve and get a chance to represent the state or play for the country in a short span of time.
“We will play our best and give our best to win,” he said being quite positive of tomorrow’s match.
