Union Minister visits Nagaland’s Mon district; says Centre working to develop remote areas
Dimapur, May 5 (EMN): The Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Thursday visited Mon district and a village bordering Myanmar, where he interacted with the district administration and village leaders.
Chandrasekhar, who is on a three-day visit to Nagaland, visited District Civil Hospital in Mon on day-2 and interacted with the doctors and frontline workers at the facility who played a critical role in fighting the Covid pandemic in the district, according to an update from PIB.
He stated that the government of India had approved an INR 350 crore for Mon Medical College to boost the healthcare facilities in the district, adding that the central assistance for the project is around INR 292 crore.
The minister was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak, legislators Mmhonlumo Kikon and Imnatiba Jamir, party Karyakartas and district administration officials during the visit.
Chandrasekhar then visited Longwa village, which is one of the biggest villages in Mon district and located in Myanmar-India border, where he was received by the members of village council led by Chairman Sh Amao Angh and others.
He assured them that the Centre is working relentlessly with state government to bring development to the remote cities, towns and villages like Longwa. “I am your colleague, partner and friend in Delhi,” he told them.
He then met the villagers, supporters, and party Karyakartas and briefed them about the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform Northeast region into one of the engines for India’s economic growth.
‘The minister also reviewed the progress of developmental and welfare schemes of the District with DC, SP and other key officials of the district administration Mon,’ updated PIB, adding the officials were asked to focus on saturating key schemes of the government so that all benefits are made available to every beneficiary and no one is left behind.
“He also asked the authorities to prepare a detailed district skill development plan by mapping local skills and market. He suggested that emphasis must be on creating more jobs locally and to promote opportunities of entrepreneurship for the youth,” said the update.
During his visit to the border post of Assam Rifles, Chandrasekhar “acknowledged the hard work being put in by the men in uniforms for safeguarding Indian borders and paid a respectful salute to all of them”.
The minister flew to Dimapur ande visited the Traditional and Heritage cluster at Sovima, village where ‘he interacted with the youth, trainers and students and discussed about the tremendous opportunities that Skill India holds for the youth of India in general and Nagaland and Northeast region in particular’.
He highlighted the success of “Pilot Projects” for bamboo artisans and weavers that were promised by him during his last visit to the state in September before being formally inaugurated in December the same year, said the update.
“The project has successfully mobilised the targeted 4100 artisans and registered over 3000 of them and formed 100 batches. The dedicated and targeted Pilot Project is promoting local job creation and opportunities of entrepreneurship,” it said.
It was informed that the minister also held a meeting with officials of Aspirational district Kiphire in Dimapur as the inclement weather did not permit him to travel to Kiphire.
The minister is scheduled to inaugurate five National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) centres in Northeast region today, including one at Dimapur, the update informed.
