Union Minister opens FCI godown in Imphal

[dropcap]U[/dropcap]nion Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Prof KV Thomas inaugurated a regional office of FCI godown in Imphal at Old Manipur Legislative Assembly building on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Thomas assured that more FCI godowns will be opened in every district of Manipur if the state Government allots land space.
He said the newly opened FCI godown will provide immense help to the state Government in implementing the Food Security Act.
Prof Thomas said Imphal West and Senapati districts by now have their FCI godowns while informing that the same godowns for the districts of Churachandpur and Thoubal are now under construction.
He also assured that FCI godowns for Imphal East and Bishupur districts will be opened next and then for the remaining districts.Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi, who was also participating in the function, assured that the state Government will allot appropriate centres for setting up more FCI godowns in the state.
The Chief Minister also said the National Food Security Act will be introduced in the state during the current year.
Admitting that the state often encounters scarcity of rice due to bandh and blockades, Ibobi guaranteed that the state Government will give support and help to the Centre in establishing further rice godowns in Manipur.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution minister M Okendro, Chief Secretary, FCI, Imphal Managing Director C Bishwanath were also present at the occasion.
