Union minister Nirmala arrives in Imphal on her two day visit

Union Commerce and Industries minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Imphal today on her two-day visit to the state. Her visit was in line with the Prime Minister’s instruction to his ministers to visit the NE states every fortnight in rotation.
Soon after her arrival in the state, the minister made a spot assessment of the trade cum permanent exhibition centre being developed at Lamboi Khongnangkhong of Imphal West district by the state commerce and industries department with the assistance of the Central government. The Union minister met with state chief minister O Ibobi Singh and some senior ministers and studied different projects being implemented in the state with Central fund in the evening before attending an official reception at the banquet hall of the 1st Manipur Rifles.
Before meeting with the chief minister, the minister attended an interaction programme with state BJP workers at BJP office, Imphal.
On Tuesday morning the minister is scheduled to fly to Kakching, Thoubal district on an IAF helicopter to inspect the Timber Park Special Economic Zone project at Kuraopokpi.
From there, she will proceed to Moreh to take stock of the developmental works being taken up in the border town before returning to Imphal and back to New Delhi in the afternoon. An official source disclosed that the Union minister is visiting the state as part of Union ministers’ tour programme to NE states. Her visit is aimed at promoting trade and commerce in the state.
