Union Health Minister to lay foundation stone of Medical College Mon in Nagaland

Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan will lay the foundation stone of Medical College Mon at the District Hospital in Mon on February 26.

Vardhan, who is on a three-day visit to Nagaland, will be accompanied by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio; Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi; Minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom; Advisor of Social Welfare, Home Guards and Civil Defence, Noke Wangnao and other legislators besides leaders of various civil society organisations in the function.

The foundation stone laying ceremony of the new medical college will be chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelan K.

The Union Health minister was received by S Pangnyu Phom on his arrival at Dimapur Airport on Thursday before visiting the Health and Wellness Centre at Naga United village and Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CISHR) in Dimapur.

He inspected the facilities at CISHR and interacted with the officials and staff, it was informed.

He is also scheduled to visit Longwa village on Friday before visiting the site of the Kohima Medical College and Kohima War Cemetery on the following day. He will depart for Imphal by chopper on Saturday afternoon it was informed.

It may be mentioned that the Union Health Minister approved and sanctioned the new medical college in Mon by upgrading the District Hospital in September last year, barely two months after Phom wrote a letter to the ministry requesting to upgrade the health facility.

Then the government of Nagaland signed a memorandum of understanding with the ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for establishment of a new medical college in Mon, 11 days after the Centre approved the facility.
