DIMAPUR — Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, inaugurated the Paghla Bridge at Aboi under Mon district virtually on Tuesday in the presence of MP (Rajya Sabha), Phangnon Konyak.

Speaking at the event, Konyak said the inauguration of the bridge highlights the translation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of future connectivity, adding that the Northeast region has witnessed tremendous development over the years, according to a DIPR update.

Organised by the 100 Road Construction Company (GREF), the inauguration programme of Paghla Bridge was attended by ADC Aboi, dignitaries, civil societies of Aboi, chairman and delegates from Langmeing village, besides troops and workers of Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

The Paghla Bridge was a part of the 90 BRO infrastructure projects constructed in 10 border States and Union Territories of India at a cost of INR 2,941 crore, it was informed, adding that that the Tuensang-Mon road crosses the Paghla river at Km 137.150 with a water gap of more than 50 meters.

“The river becomes non-fordable during rainy season which causes inconvenience to road users and also snapping logistic movement in Defence support. Construction of a permanent steel superstructure major PMT bridge of 55.900mtr span steel superstructure of class-70R was planned by BRO/ Project Sewak,” read the update.
