Union alleges anomalies in work at Dimapur railway station

Dimapur, Dec. 17 (EMN): The Railway Contractors’ Union of Nagaland (RCUN) has charged the contractor of the ongoing cleanliness work at the Dimapur railway station of failing to achieve the required norms and procedures of the tender paper. The union has made the allegations basing on complaints received from the president of Life Consumer Society and RTI, Dimapur, dated December 10, updates stated.

In a representation to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lumding, the union’s president Niuto Awomi pointed out that work regarding comprehensive cleaning of the platform, waiting hall, FOB, track and drains etc with semi-mechanised cleaning at the Dimapur railway station were not as per the required norms and procedure of the tender paper. It charged the contractor of failing to execute the contract work.

The representation also accused the contractor of not deploying the required machineries and equipments to the work site. It pointed out that only two auto scrubber drier machines, battery-operated, were deployed against a total of five such machines as per the tender paper.

Besides, the union stated that the present contractor is also running short of manpower as per the required engagement of labour and requirement of materials as mentioned in the tender paper. It alleged that due to shortage of labour and manpower, the contractor was not able to perform intensive cleaning, sweeping, washing and scrubbing with suitable chemicals at the beginning of each of the three shifts inside the platform as well as in all the designated places as mentioned in the tender paper.

It noted further that many areas in and outside the Dimapur railway station such as the foot over bridge, Passenger Reservation System etc were not adequately maintained by deploying manpower during all the shifts.
The union has requested the authorities in concern to take stern action against the contractor either by staying the existing work or by terminating or cancelling the work in the larger interest of the public.
