Dimapur, April 27 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma) Kohima district, in association with the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti) and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (Manage) conducted a six-day training programme on poultry management from April 19 to the 24th.
The main objective of the training was to impart training to rural youths on Agri & Allied areas to promote employment and create skilled manpower to perform farm and non –farm operation, an update from Atma Kohima stated. Dr. Thepfudithou Shüya, farm manager, and Dr. Vibeilie Keretsü, BTM Tseminyu block, were the resource person of the training.
It stated that two main topics namely ‘poultry feed management’ and ‘disease and preventive measures in poultry farming’ were covered during the training. It added that resource persons have also shared precautionary measures to prevent any disease infections, measures in feeding habits, and to give the right feeds at the right stage.
Dr. Shüya has described poultry farming as one of the fastest growing and most profitable agri businesses in the current market scenario and encouraged the youth to pursue the business starting from one’s own backyard by doing with their own hands instead of hiring labourers.
It also stated that a field visit to a poultry farm was also conducted wherein the resource persons gave a thorough explanation on pen maintenance. It further stated that 17 unemployed youth from different villages under Kohima district attended the training and were given certificates.
In a separate programme, Atma Kohima conducted a farmer-scientist interaction at DAO’s conference hall in Kohima on April 27.
It stated that the first technical session on ‘management practices on piggery and poultry’ was conducted by Dr. Vibeilie Keretsu, BTM Tseminyu block wherein he highlighted the various management measures of piggery and poultry feeds.
In the second session, Michael Kerukuolie, ACTO plant protection, spoke on ‘pest and disease management on summer crops’ and also explained the management aspects of various pests and diseases found in paddy and other summer crops.
The programme also discussed integrated pest management of fall armyworm in detail followed by an interactive hour. The programme was chaired by Vimenuo Mere, BTM Jakhama block, while Medokhrielie, ATM Botsa block, delivered the vote of thanks. Altogether, 21 participants from seven blocks attended the programme.
