Uncle arrested for allegedly raping minor girl in Dimapur

Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): An 11-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by her uncle at Bank colony in Dimapur, last week, and the accused has been arrested by Dimapur Police following an FIR lodged by the victim’s relatives.

A source informed this newspaper that the accused is the uncle of the victim.

It was informed that the victim, who studies in Peren district, had come to Dimapur following lockdown when her uncle allegedly raped her.

Another source informed that the condition of the victim is stable and is under juvenile care.

The accused was arrested when he reportedly took the victim to a hospital as she started bleeding. It was informed that the doctor, who examined the victim, became suspicious and informed the police.

The relatives of the victim later lodged an FIR and the accused was arrested and imprisoned.

Following the incident, the Zeliang Women Organisation, Dimapur, issued a statement expressing shock at the shameful act meted out to a minor girl.

The organisation strongly condemned the crime, stating that it was ‘unexpected in this Christian society of ours’. It further demanded justice and to award a befitting punishment to the culprit.
