DIMAPUR — Dimapur Police have served a reminder that prior written permission is mandatory for organising any public gathering, rally or democratic protest in the city, warning that unauthorised assemblies will be treated as unlawful.
In a corrigendum issued on Friday, the Dimapur Police PRO stated that while the authorities fully respect and recognise the democratic rights of citizens to assemble peacefully and express their views, maintaining public safety, law and order, and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and commercial activities remain equally important.
It, therefore, maintained that organisers of any public gathering, rally or protest must obtain prior written permission from the competent authority before holding such events.
“Failure to do so will be viewed as an unlawful assembly,” the notice warned.
The police further reminded the public that all forms of public gathering are strictly prohibited at the Clock Tower area in Dimapur in accordance with a government order.
