[dropcap]U[/dropcap]ma Thurman is opening up about the bullying she faced as a child because of her “ugly smile” — and reveals she is still insecure about her appearance today. “When I was 10, someone told me I had an ugly smile, so I spent the whole of my younger years feeling embarrassed and never smiling with my mouth open. But what are you going to do?” the 44-year-old actress said in a new interview.
“I’m enjoying getting older because I feel I didn’t appreciate being pretty when I was younger,” she continued.
Though the star admitted to still being self-conscious of her looks today, the mom-of-three encourages other women to embrace their changing appearances as they age.
“We all lose our looks as we get older and I actually think there’s a beauty to older people that’s just different to the beauty of younger people,” Uma said. “You look good as a beautiful mature woman but you do not look 12 and if you tried you would look really weird.”
Last month, Uma looked almost unrecognizable at the premiere of her new show, ‘The Slap,’ leading many to think she had undergone plastic surgery.
But in an interview with The Today Show,’ the star set the record straight, stating her altered appearance was not the result of cosmetic procedures — just makeup!
“I know I look weird!” she said. “I don’t know, I guess nobody liked my makeup.”
Uma spoke to ‘Hello!’ magazine.
