Ukhrul village gears up for Luira festival

Hunphun frontal organizations are all set to organize the Hunphun Luira Seed sowing festival from February 14 to 18 under the sponsorship of Hunphun Village Authority and North East Zone Cultural Centre Dimapur.
With the theme “Custom for peace and harmony”, the five day seed sowing festival with showcase various programes including beauty pageant, virgin dance competition, folk song and folk dance competition etc.Besides the sporting events such as Thingreila Khangakhun traditiona Tug of War, open challenge wrestling competition, Zeipa kaphar javelin throw, shot put, sipa flute, tingteila violin, flower show, choreography and humour and jokes will mark the festival. Those who won the above competitions will get exciting prizes during the mega meet of the community, sources from Hunphun village said.
Musical event Lungchan la love song and other talent show “Ukhrul Got talent” would also be displayed during the festival.
Unlike the other day celebration, the Hunphun Headman HA Sarimaya will invoke a ritual on Febrauary 15 at his residence. This will be followed by Luithui khami pronouncement for bountiful blessing at the celebration venue.The beauty pageant Miss Hunphun Luira contest will also be showcased on the last day of the celebration.
GOC lauds effort to save manipuri ponies:General Officer Commanding 3 Corps Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat has lauded the efforts to save the rare of Manipuri pony from the brink of extinction.
The GOC General Bipin was the chief guest of the ongoing 12th edition of Director General Assam Rifles(DGAR) cup, State Equestrian Championship-2015 organised conjointly by Inspector General Assam Rifles(South) and Manipur Equestrian Association at Imphal Polo Ground in Imphal on third day today.
General officer said that the DGAR cup State Equestrian Championship and IGAR(South) Junior Equestrian Championship is a radiant and eloquent testimony of the Assam Rifles enthusiastic zeal to encourage the strong sports culture of Manipur.
“It is also an endeavour to save the rare breed of Manipuri pony from the brink of extinction”, GOC added. The numbers of Manipuri ponies have been are on the decrease since the last few years due to various factors.
Earlier the General officer was accorded a warm welcome with a traditional Manipuri reception and presentation of Rosettes and Shawl. Major General Rajeev Chopra, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) and Brigadier V T Mathew Commander 9 Sector Assam Rifles along with Dr S Joykumar Singh, President Manipur Equestrian Association, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion to attend the event, PRO Assam Rifles(South) said in a press release. The whole ceremony was full of pomp and splendour but the cynosure of the ceremony were the tent pegging, cultural programme and the exhibition of Sagol Kangjei (Traditional Manipuri pony Polo) which received accolades from the gathering on their performances,it added.
