Dimapur, Aug 1 (EMN): In view of the National Handloom Day (NHD) which is observed on August 7 annually, secretary of UGC, Prof. Dr.Jaspal S. Sandhu, has directed universities to provide suitable venue in their campus to the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) and also ensure participation of all students in the activities.
As part of an integrated media campaign to be undertaken on the occasion the DFP and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be organizing activities such as quiz, weavathon, debate competitions etc., in different parts of the country. Location wise breakup of SOP programmes and details are to be undertaken by DFP.
The objective of the National Handloom Day is to generate awareness about the importance of handloom industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country besides promoting handloom. It is also aimed at increasing the income of weavers and enhancing their pride.
