Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): Additional Secretary, UGC, Dr. Pankaj Mittal, has informed that the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has framed regulation on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions in order to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging. The regulations have been made mandatory for all institutions to take necessary steps for its implementation and ensure its strict compliance. The UGC has also taken several proactive steps including launching media campaign for prevention of ragging. Films on ragging have also been uploaded on the commission’s website, for use by higher education institutions.
As further step, the UGC will be launching a national university film making competition, to spread awareness on ragging amongst students. Universities can promote its students and faculty to develop films on ragging. Entries could be from the departments in the university or its affiliated colleges. Universities, through internal selection procedure will select the three best entries to be sent to UGC. The films may be documentary/fiction films of duration between 5-10 minutes. The UGC will constitute an expert committee to select the three best films from the entries submitted by the universities and will give award of Rs. 5 lac., Rs. 3 lac., and Rs. 2 lac. respectively, for 1st , 2nd and 3rd. The selected films would be the property of UGC and would be uploaded on UGC website, while giving credit to the film maker.
Additional secretary also directed all universities to give adequate publicity to this initiative, and send the three best film entries from their respective university in a pen drive/DVD to UGC, latest by November 30.
