UGC extends timelines for scholarship

Dimapur, Jan. 4 (EMN): The University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education under the government of India, has extended timelines for online applications for scholarship and invited fresh applications (including renewals) from regular and full time students under the four schemes for the academic year 2020- 2021.

According to a DIPR report, the schemes included (i) Indira Gandhi PG scholarship for single girl child (SGC), (ii) PG scholarship for university rank holder candidate (URH), (iii) Ishan Uday special scheme for North Eastern Region (NER), and (iv) PG scholarship for professional courses for SC/ ST candidates.

It stated that the guidelines of each scheme could be accessed at national scholarship portal website Students, who were eligible and admitted in the recognised institutions as per the guidelines, could submit their applications through national scholarship portal.

The portal was opened on September 1 last and would be opened for receiving applications for ‘Fresh’ as well as ‘Renewals’ as per the extended timelines. According to the report, the closing date for filing online applications by students has been set on January 20, while the closing date for verification of applications by institutions of students including re-submission of defective applications has been set on February 5.

Students are advised to submit their online applications well ahead on time so that their institutions would be able to verify applications within the prescribed timelines.

In a notification dated December 31, 2020, the UGC secretary Prof. Rajnish Jain has directed the eligible institutions to verify applications of their students immediately after receiving the applications on portal. In the interest of students, he has urged the institutions to verify all the applications by January 31.
