DIMAPUR — The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification addressing students, parents, and the general public regarding the authenticity of universities and institutions.
The UGC informed that only universities/ institutions established under legal acts (state, central or provincial) or those authorised by the UGC Act of 1956 have the authority to confer degrees. The UGC has issued this notification after it identified instances of institutions awarding degrees contrary to its provisions.
“It is vital to note that degrees from such unrecognised institutions will not be acknowledged for higher education or employment purposes,” the statement read.
The secretary of UGC under the ministry of Education, Government of India, Prof. Manish Joshi, has urged individuals to consult the UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in) for a list of recognised institutions.
