Mokokchung, Dec. 08: With schools over for the year the budding football aspirants in Mokokchung are currently participating in the sixth edition of Under 15 Five Men Marep Royals Trophy 2016 which got underway on Thursday at Marepkong Play Ground in Mokokchung.
The five-man soccer popularly known as futsal is steadily gaining momentum among the young football aspirants in Mokokchung. In this edition alone more than 60 teams turned up to participate in the five men soccer tourney, however after scrutiny only 31 teams were selected to participate.
Apart from cash prizes, trophies and certificates , the other main attraction of thjis tournament is that every year the organiser provides one-year scholarship to a player basing on his performance during the tourney. “The player is adjudged not only on his talents and skills but also emphasizes on his ability to organise teamwork and encourages his teammates to maintain a positive attitude toward one another in the true spirit of the game,” said the Marep Royals general Secretary Takosunep.
In the first day, eleven matches were witnessed that were played in 20 minutes format. Hundreds of schools students and parents also came to cheer their teams. The tourney was kicked off by Nungsangmeren Lkr, NPF, president 25 Aonglenden A/C.
