Tzurangkong range youths request Governor to expedite construction of Trans Nagaland Expressway
Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): The Tzurangkong Range Naga Youth Front (TRYNF) on Wednesday requested Governor RN Ravi to expedite the construction of Trans Nagaland Expressway (erstwhile Nagaland Foothill Road).
In a letter to the governor, TRYNF stated that Tzurangkong area has been making progress in agro-based industries and mining activities, resulting in inter-state trade growing manifold over the last few years but has ended up in benefitting big players and companies due to poor road condition.
“The lack of poor connectivity within the state discourages small entrepreneurs and it also causes immense hardships for rural farmers and cultivators to sell their products,” read the letter, adding that “this loss is in fact a gain for the traders from the neighbouring state”.
“An expressway like the proposed Foothill Road that connects the area to Wokha and Dimapur districts to the south and Tuli area and Mon district to the north will give impetus to bring about sustainable development in the area,” it continued.
While acknowledging the “initial funding” of the state government for the Nagaland Foothill Road, it stated the completion of the project is still a far dream considering the current pace and without central funding.
It went on to state that either the “Centre is purposely ignoring the project or some vested interests are obstructing the completion of the road”, and urged the governor expedite the project for the benefit of the people.
