DIMAPUR: Two Myanmar nationals were deported from Kiphire district after entering India without a free movement region (FMR) permit.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Kiphire superintendent of police-cum-foreigners registration officer (FRO), K Swarnambika, Kiphire Police informed.

“Two Myanmar citizens, who had made illegal entry inside India without a free movement regime (FMR) permit along the Indo-Myanmar border under Kiphire district were expelled from the Indian territory following an ‘expulsion order’ issued by the FRO,” the statement read.

It mentioned that FMR permit is a document that allows the people living along the Indo-Myanmar border to travel 16 km across the boundary without visa restriction on both sides.

As violations are often reported along the Indo-Myanmar border, the SP of Kiphire warned that any FMR violations in the Kiphire district, henceforth, would be dealt strictly as per legal provisions.

“As India practices the concept of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (guest is our god), the Kiphire Police has welcomed the guest from Myanmar border under FMR regime, who are kith and kin to the people living on the other boundary of India. However, to enter the Indian territory, a valid FMR permit is required,” it read.

The police officer requested the village councils and civil society organisations to sensitise the people living on the Indo-Myanmar border about the FMR permit. She also requested the border guarding forces and village guards to keep strict vigil along the Indo-Myanmar border to prevent any unauthorised ingress into the India territory, it said.
