A joint operation conducted by district police, IRB and Assam Rifles today has led to the arrest of two ring-leaders reportedly igniting the people to ransack and vandalize the office of Deputy Commission and Superintendent of Police in Tuensang on Saturday. Police sources said that the two identified as Changlemba and Subong were arrested from their residences at around 11 am today, which has increased the total number of arrested persons to 15 in connection with Saturday’s ransacking and vandalizing of the district administration office.
It may mentioned here that the incident occurred following the recovery a Class-IX student’s bullet riddled corpse in the outskirts of Tuensang town after being kidnapped by armed miscreants.
The two arrested today are accused of igniting the general populace of Tuensang town flaring up the situation by ransacking and vandalizing offices of the DC and SP, source said.
Meanwhile, police sources informed that following Saturday’s incident the district administration has promulgated 144 CrPC, which is being strictly enforced by the security forces to check movement of any anti-social elements and armed miscreants within the jurisdiction.
All transport, including NST services have been cut off affecting Tuensang town and other neighbouring villages, sources said, adding that only emergency services and students appearing exams are being exempted from the prohibitory orders. All commercial activities have also come to a grinding halt because of the prohibitory orders, sources said.
Meanwhile, Additional SP Tuensang has requested the general public not to spread rumours or wrong information about movement of armed cadres in colonies, but pass credible information which would lead to arrest of the miscreants and help normalize the situation.
