Two men from Longleng allegedly killed in hit-and-run; police investigate, public suspects Assam Rifles involvement, tension reported.

KOHIMA — Two men from Aoching village in Longleng district were allegedly killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident on Saturday morning.
Sources said that the incident occurred on a main road near Pongo village. The police received information about the case at around 10.30 am from passersby.
Official sources confirmed that both victims died on the spot.
The authorities have not yet identified the vehicle or the culprits, and the case remains under investigation.
Both victims have been identified, and their bodies were taken to the police station. They will be handed over to family members once formalities are completed.

According to reports, the public suspects involvement of an Assam Rifles truck in the incident, leading to heightened tension between residents and Assam Rifles personnel.
The Superintendent of Police, Longleng, told Eastern Mirror that the situation remained tense as of 8:17 pm but added that an emergency meeting was being held with civil society representatives and the victims’ families to defuse the situation.
He said the situation had been “very hot” earlier but is “somehow” coming under control.
He also confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported during the commotion.
