Two injured as public tries to storm PS

A woman agitator and a policeman were hurt in Manipur when police fired tear gas shells to control the angry protestors who tried to storm Wangoi police station over the death of a man in custody this afternoon, reports said.
The incident took place when police fired tear gas shells to control the protestors mostly womenfolk who tried to storm the Wangoi police station in Imphal West district by pelting stones around 4 pm in the afternoon.
The agitators have been demanding justice into the suspicious death of one Thoudam Digvijay (37) son of Nabakumar of Wangoi Makha Leikai who was found death in the custody of Wangoi Police Station on Wednesday.
One Assistant Sub Inspector Somorjot of Wangoi Police Station was hit by a stone on his head when the protestors had a confrontation with police in front of Wangoi Police station, about 16 km south of Imphal.  To control the public protest, Police fired several round of tear gas shells in which a woman Thoudam Inaobi (24) wife of Premjit of Wangoi Makha Leikai who is said to be a relative of the deceased sustained minor injury.
Earlier a sit in protest was held against the death of Digbijoy at Wangoi Bazar under the aegis of Joint Action Committee which was formed against the suspicious death. Police source said Digbijoy was found hung to death inside the custody. However the family of the deceased and locals rejected the story.
Stating that his son’s death is very suspicious, Nabakumar, father of the deceased person, urged to conduct an inquiry about the incident to find out the reality. The womenfolk in the day’s agitation also want a proper investigation to bring Justice besides taking necessary action against Police personnel involved in the incident.
Echoing a similar feeling, opposition Trinamool Congress MLA Oinam Lukhoi of Wangoi seat raises the issue in the day’s zero hour session of the ongoing assembly session on Thursday.MLA Lukhoi also demanded an inquiry into the incident as the matter occurred while the assembly session in on.
