Two held for misappropriation of ATM money

Mankai Konyak and Santosh Khatri in police custody for misappropriation of money meant for ATMs in Kohima.

Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): Kohima police have arrested two persons on charges of fraudulent misappropriation of money meant for replenishment of cash at ATMs in Kohima.

According to a police report issued by the PRO DEF Kohima, the two persons are identified as Mankai Konyak (32) and Santosh Khatri (27). The arrested persons were reported to be employees of Ms Writer Business Service Pvt. Ltd., a cash replenishment agency for State Bank of India, and working as ATM operators.

Report stated that on preliminary investigation, it revealed shortage of cash amounting to INR 1,84,56,500 from fifteen State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs across Kohima town. In this connection, a case was registered at North Police Station constituted investigation by an SIT led by SDPO (North).

In the course of investigation, police have so far recovered an amount of INR 38,48,000. It further stated that an investigation was underway to ascertain the modus operandi and involvement of persons in the fraudulent misappropriation of money meant for ATMs.
