AT least two families were rendered homeless as a government quarter of PWD Department caught fire at Officers’ Hill Kohima around 6:00 pm today.
Sources said though the actual cause of the fire could not be ascertained but bursting of gas cylinder ravaged the fire completely razing to ashes a basha-type government quarter and also damaging another adjacent quarter.
Colony residents and youth organization stopped the fire from spreading to nearby houses, while four fire tenders were also put to service in completely dousing the fire.
Colony sources also said that due to congestion in the road by way side parked vehicles fire tenders reached the spot late.
Sources said that the damage of property has also not been ascertained.
