Two-day east zone vice-chancellors’ meet kicks off at Manipur Univ.

Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 17 (EMN): With theme ‘Future Universities: Challenges and Opportunists for Relevance and Excellence’, a two-day east zone vice-chancellors’ meet was inaugurated at Manipur University on Nov. 17 Fri. President Prof PB Sharma of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Secretary General Prof Furqan Qamar of AIU and Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey of Manipur University attended the meet as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively. Vice chancellors of more than 40 Universities of East Zone comprising the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and the states of the North-East region is participating in the meet that aims to deliberate on a plethora of issues keeping in view the global trends, national preparedness and requirements at achieving the objective of relevance and excellence. Appreciating all the vice chancellors present at this meet at a very important time where the whole world is looking at India, Prof PB Sharma proposed the universities to reunite, research, rejuvenate, develop, enterprise and enhance education to reproduce and guide in the field of higher education in the eastern region. Secretary General Prof Furqan Qamar of AIU and Prof Adya Prasad Pandey also spoke on the occasion. Out of 800 universities, 700 universities are said to be members of AIU. It is a representative body of all the universities of India. It was established in 1925 but the resolution to establish this body was passed in another association. It is an important meet as more than 40 percent of the AIU members are participating in this meet. A journal called ‘University News: A Weekly Journal of Higher Education’ of AIU was also released during the inaugural function.
